Course structure

Our SCITT curriculum begins early in September and involves teaching practices in school each week between Monday to Thursday.

We also offer a part time primary course, enabling you to earn while you train.

Part time routes will follow this pattern:

Year 1: 2 days a week on school placement in one school, one day of face to face training per week. 

Year 2: 2 days a week on school placement in a second school, online PGCE studies (optional) and a full time final placement in a third school.

The schools in our SCITT partnership are very committed to your training and they are involved in designing the programme to achieve our vision of producing excellent new primary teachers with the skill and knowledge which their schools require.

The schools that form the primary partnership are:

  • Holme Community Primary
  • Garstang St Thomas CE Primary
  • St Helens Kirkland and Catterall CE Primary
  • Caton St Pauls CE Primary
  • St peter's CE Primary Heysham
  • St Michaels-on-Wyre CE Primary
  • St Mary's CE Primary School, Kirby Lonsdale
  • Scorton CE Primary School
  • Calder Vale CE Primary School 

Curriculum conferences will be held across several of these venues according to the best expertise available for each topic. Placements will also be distributed across these schools according to the training needs of successful applicants.

You will complete placements in two-three of our partner schools. The first placement will begin with focused lesson observations across the whole school before beginning to teach and team teach aspects of lessons. After a few weeks you will be planning a delivering whole lessons. Placements in different schools will give you contrasting experiences and broaden your professional development.

  • The Primary Programme Leader
  • A Mentor at your placement schools
  • A university tutor for the academic modules
